Frequently Asked Questions

What is ReuseMoose?

ReuseMoose is an online service which makes recycling things easy for anyone (anywhere in the world)!

Does it cost anything to use ReuseMoose?

No, anyone can use ReuseMoose for free.

Why ReuseMoose?

Short answer: To stop landfill and give things a second life.

Longer answer: An uncluttered house is an uncluttered mind! We all have stuff sitting around gathering dust. Don't send it to landfill. It might still be useful to someone else. Someone may be able to use it for parts or repair it. If you no longer use it, make someone's day and give it away!

Another answer: Because we found there was no EASY way to recycle online. We tried other services and found them hard to use and laden with confusing rules and interfaces. This is why we decided to use our IT skills and create ReuseMoose! We hope you like it.

If I signup, will you send me lots of spam?

No in fact, we won't send you any spam! Neither will we pass your details on to anyone!

Is ReuseMoose safe?

Yes, if you act sensibly.

Don't publish your contact details in your listing. Once you have accepted a response, ReuseMoose will allow you to have a conversation with the winner to arrange for the item to be picked up. ReuseMoose does not share any of your details, this is all controlled by you!

Someone you don't know will obviously need to pick up the item. Maybe you can leave it on your front doorstep or arrange pickup at a certain time or place?

What about charities?

The Moose thinks charities are great! And please keep giving to them. However, think before you dump something on a charities' doorstep!

Charities spend millions of dollars each year cleaning up items they cannot sell but have been dumped on them!

Just to give you an example, here is a list of things the Salvation Army does NOT accept:

White Goods, Electrical Goods, Computers, printers, Broken furniture/ incomplete goods, Gas, electric or oil heaters, Gas or electric ovens or cook tops, Car parts, Building materials, Gas bottles and fire extinguishers, Gas or electric barbeques, Commodes, Motorcycle/bicycle helmets, Baby cots, port- a-cots, cradles, bassinettes, playpens, walkers, bouncinettes, high chairs, prams, Children's car seats, booster seats and baby capsules, Safety belts and child restraints, Baby door swings and chairs, Swing sets, Trampolines, Washing lines, Wire mesh beds, water beds and free-standing bed heads, Bath and basins, spa baths.

Please check with your charity before you leave something with them.

What if my things are worth money?

Simple, if you can be bothered, sell them instead. There are plenty of sites out there that can help you with this.

Any rules?

We don't believe that we need to create a whole heap of rules about what you give away, or who you give it to.

The fact is, some people have stuff to give and some people have nothing. Some people might be able to make something useful that you can't.

We do ask that you keep your posts nice, legal and for all ages! We will keep an eye on things and may terminate accounts if you can't play nicely.

The Moose community (yes, that's you!) runs this website. So, if you see something fishy, report it and we will sort it out (there is a link on every page which makes it easy for you to do so).

I am seeing items from all over the world, how does that work?

Because ReuseMoose is used globally, you will see items from all over the world. On the main page, you will be able to see items near you. When you sign up, you can tell us your location and subscribe to be notified of new items near you.

If I list something and get a response, do I have to give it away?

No, you choose if and who you give something to. You are not obliged to give it away on ReuseMoose if you don't want to.

What if I have a question which is not answered here?

Please use the feedback tab and we will try and answer it as quickly as possible.

What if I am a rocket surgeon and have a brilliant idea which will make ReuseMoose even better?

We are all about making it as easy as possible for anyone to use this site so please, send us all your ideas. We are committed to make this the best recycling website around.
